Tips for Airport Travel with Kids

We travel at least once every few months. At this point my five year old could almost lead me through the airport. Most of the time I am traveling through the airport with my 2 year old and 5 year old alone since my husband is in residency and can not get off. So I have to be very efficient. So in this post I am sharing some of my airport tips!

Ok, packing my carryon items is a huge priority for me. The right kind of distractions and snacks are a total game changer. I pack  my boys entertainment in each of their own backpacks. They keep up with them and are so proud to have their own carryon. I also have this stroller that I mainly only use for the airport and it makes the trip so much easier.

What’s inside? Entertainment wise I pack an iPad with a kids protective cover for movies and games, a few books, Melissa and Doug magic marker kit, and I let them pick one toy from the house. Kai picked a chicken, lol. I also pack a blanket for each of them. Just to confirm that we won’t run out of power for my phone or iPad  I bring my power station everywhere and I love it!

Other than entertainment I pack snacks. Never depend on the in flight snacks. If there is a lot of turbulence you may get them late or not at all. I go for all snacks that can be resealed. Also, if there is a short layover I make sure to pack peanut butter and honey (their fav) sandwiches, banana and chips for my boys. Last but not least I pack gum, since my littles have difficulty popping their ears in the sky. Emergency snack may include a sucker or something to make them happy. You never know when you may have a flight delay.

Water – I buy a squirt top (less spills)  water bottle for everyone once I get past security.

Just a tip. Unless you want to spend a lot of time in the security line and have everything taken out of your bag…do not use products with glycerin prior to going to the airport. This includes certain hair gels, lotions and things like that. I put on bath and body works lotion prior to our trip and had to get the pat down and all bags searched. This is the second time this has happened to me. The security team told me it was more than likely my lotion that set off the machine.

Here is a checklist below of my airport must haves!
